This work presents experimental measurements of the velocity profile of a Maxwell and a newtonian fluid in a tube under periodic forcing. The results were in good agreement with theoretical calculations that predict a monotonic response for the newtonian fluid and a more complex behavior for the maxwellian fluid.
We determined the velocity profiles of the fluid in a tube with two
techniques: PIV (Particle Imaging Velocimetry) was used to measure bulk
veloctity profiles and OD (Optical Deflectometry) to determine the
velocity profile at the interface liquid-air.
